Along with the concept of Menstrual Hygiene management is an issue that is insufficiently acknowledged and has not received adequate attention in the reproductive health and Hygiene management especially in rural areas of Haryana and Delhi. A Survey was conducted in villages of Jhajhar,Gurgaon,Chandigarh, and Mathura in for use of sanitary napkins and found out 3 major problems,
- awareness about sanitary napkins are not there,
- mostly men sits in all village shops, women feel shy to ask about buying sanitary napkins,
- prices of branded napkins are high. So, we came up with a model where WE trained our SHG/NGO at our training set up a unit (Set-up cost around 2.5 Lakhs),with a concept that the trained SHG will set up their own production unit with another group of 8-10 women work there to produce napkins(800-1000 napkins/day)and the chain will go away ,whereas another group of women(1/2 representatives of SHGs/ANMs/ASHA workers) sell the napkins in villages.as the Marketing agents with incentive from the CANDLE Since its inception in October 2007, CANDLE has organized, explored and initiated many activities, with help from various individuals and partners, in it's effort to eradicate economic and social issues.
